This is a day that the the Lord has made, let's rejoice and be glad in it. The joy of the lord is ours, so let's claim it in the name of Jesus. As the summer roles on, we are heading to the conclusion of our series "The Lord as Our Shepherd." This week we will have part 10, and I will be considering David’s declaration that the Lord “anoints my head with oil and my cup runs over.”
Here is the text in context…
TEXT: Psalm 23
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters,
3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil,
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
WHAT THE SERMON IS ABOUT: The substance of God's anointing and its fruits.
SUGGESTED CHILDREN'S MESSAGE: Let’s teach the children to look to God for the source of what is right and what is wrong.
