Faith Instills Love

Devotional Reading: John 13:31-35
Background Scripture: Hebrews 13; 1 Corinthians 13

Hebrews 13:1-3, 6
1 Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.
2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
3 Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.
6 So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Key Verse
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. —1 Corinthians 13:13

Sunday September 23, 2012 at Zion

Sunday School 9:30 am for all ages

Lesson title: Faith Inspires Gratitude

Devotional Reading: 2 Thessalonians 1:1-7

Background Scripture: Hebrews 12:14-29

Sunday School Text: Hebrews 12:18-29 (NIV)
18You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned.”£ 21The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”£
22But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, 24to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
25See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? 26At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken — that is, created things — so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29for our “God is a consuming fire.”

WORSHIP SERVICE INFORMATION FOR SUNDAY 9/9/2012

Give glory to God Saints, give glory to God! Just like that summer is over and we are back to our regular schedule. It's Home coming Sunday and we have an array of activities planned for young and old. Remember Sunday School restarts at 9:30 AM.

In our preaching this Sunday, we are going to look at one verse of scripture from the prophet Joel.  Here is the text...

Joel 2:1 Blow the trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; For the day of the Lord is coming, For it is at hand:(NKJV)

WHAT THE SERMON IS ABOUT:  To call and encourage the people of God to move with us into our God ordained future and give the Saints three ways to do it.

SEPTEMBER MEMORY VERSE:  2 Timothy 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. (NIV)

NOTE: The dress for this Sunday is casual, cook-out, fun, food, and fellowship after service.

Bless you people of God.
